Internship at Kärcher: supporting the relaunch of the RCV 5 app with focus on design

One of the key highlights of my internship at Kärcher SE & Co. KG was contributing to the design and relaunch of the RCV 5 app — the first digital product I was involved in from start to publication. This project marked an important milestone in my development as a designer.

My role: translating design into product reality

During the internship, my main responsibility was to create and refine app screens for the RCV 5, ensuring that all visual elements aligned with Kärcher’s corporate identity. I worked iteratively, adjusting layouts, icons, and flows to meet both usability and brand consistency.

Being part of the launch

In the final days of the internship, I had the opportunity to join a closing meeting with product managers and developers to review the completion of phase one of the app — just before its release. Although the official launch in Germany happened after my internship, I continued to follow its rollout closely.

The app received positive feedback internally and from customers, especially regarding its improved visual clarity and user experience. Some technical issues on the development side (e.g., slow-loading screens) remain, but the overall design was seen as a strong step forward.

💭 Reflection

Being part of the process — from early wireframes to a live product — was a valuable and formative experience. It strengthened my understanding of cross-functional collaboration, real-world implementation, and the importance of consistency in digital product design.
